WHEREAS the County of Simcoe supports the protection of its natural heritage areas through the Greenlands designation in the County Official Plan; and WHEREAS the current County Greenlands mapping was established in 2015 in consultation with municipalities through the County Official Plan Update; and WHEREAS the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry provides and maintains the Wetland mapping; and WHEREAS the Province has mapped a separate Provincial Natural Heritage System as part of the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe; and WHEREAS the County has the opportunity to refine the Provincial Natural Heritage System mapping through the Municipal Comprehensive Review as per the Growth Plan; and WHEREAS the County of Simcoe already relies upon current Greenlands mapping to reflect natural heritage features and functions; and WHEREAS the County intends on updating its Greenlands mapping and policies in 2023 to reflect the most current conditions; and NOW THEREFORE be it resolved that the County prefers a One System approach to the protection of natural heritage across the County where the County Greenlands and the Provincial Natural Heritage System work together and compliment each other; and THAT the County work with the Province to implement the Provincial Natural Heritage System mapping once it can be informed by updated County Greenlands mapping and policies; and That the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing be so advised.
